Katrina Fund
September 12, 2005
For Immediate Release
The Children of Fallen Soldiers Relief Fund was founded, October 23, 2003 to provide financial support to U.S. Military families and severely disabled service members affected by the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. We have recently received a request from the widow of a soldier who died while serving in Afghanistan last year, her and her daughter require assistance financially to help her with housing, food and all the other necessities in life. She has been displaced and is presently staying with friends more than 3,000 miles away.
We all realize the devastation and impact Katrina has brought to those directly affected. Our hearts and prayers are with them all. Our donations that we send to the Red Cross and Salvation Army helps the victims in their time of need with food, water, supplies, temporary housing and other vital needs. However, it is not long term and is open to all the victims. We are asking the public for assistance in helping our military families. Louisiana Guardsmen of the 256th Brigade Combat Team have begun leaving Iraq to return home. Many of them have lost everything and after serving overseas helping to rebuild Iraq and change the future of those in that country, they now have to rebuild their homes and rebuild their lives. The hardest hit Brigade, the 1st Battalion, 141st Field Artillery Regiment, is based in New Orleans. Almost all the soldiers that left last Thursday belong to the New Orleans battalion.
Many still have not heard from family members scattered by the disaster and have only word-of-mouth reports on the destruction wrought on their homes by the storm, the flood and the legions of looters. Many say they and their family members have lost jobs. Many are thinking of leaving New Orleans for good. Many of the widows are now displaced and need our assistance.
We are asking for help with the CFSRF “Katrina Special Relief Fund” that will provide financial assistance directly to service members and their families affected by Katrina’s wrath. Families in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama need our help, however, our funds are limited. We are accepting donations specifically for the military families affected. All proceeds are tax deductible and 100% of the proceeds collected will be allocated to help our brave service members and their families affected. For further information, please visit our website at: www.cfsrf.org email your donation request to us at: donatekatrina@cfsrf.org. All donations received will be monitored and posted online so that all parties contributing can see where their donations are going. We don’t want to turn our backs on these families and hope to be able to offer assistance to all our service member families in need. To speak with a representative please contact us at (301) 865-6327 you may be asked to leave a message, please leave your name, telephone number and state “Katrina“.
